CULTURE AND CONTEXT:

GOSPEL COMMUNICATION

When it comes to sharing the gospel, there is a seemingly obvious but often overlooked truth: unless we learn to communicate the gospel in a way that is understandable to people in our context, it will never affect the culture we’re attempting to reach. The unchanging truth of the gospel must be expressed in a way that makes sense to our city. This is the challenge of contextualisation and it requires thoughtful engagement both with the cultural narratives and the gospel itself.

That’s why at City to City Europe we’ve created a new course called “Culture and Context: Gospel Communication”. This online course, based on some key training elements in our Intensive and Incubator programs, is intended to help you as a church planter or pastor grow in the skills necessary for effective and faithful gospel contextualisation for your city.

Contents
The contents of the course include:  

  • Understanding our culture and context, including the dangers of both under- and over-contextualisation

  • Researching your community and how to create a contextual profile for your ministry

  • How to apply the concept of Theological Vision to your gospel communication

  • Understanding plausibility structures and how to practice gospel persuasion in a secular society

  • Forming your church as a church on mission, including how to develop relational evangelistic pathways

  • And much more

Time Requirements
The course consists of: 

  • 5 two-hour online sessions, facilitated by an experienced CTCE trainer

  • An hour of pre-session materials per module

  • An hour of practical projects after each session to help you practice new skills

  • Total of 4 hours per module

  • Module sessions will be held once every week
